The pandemic has affected us in every possible way. The most obvious change in our lives is that we have never had so many books read on the nightstand - don´t get us wrong - we have always bought many books, it is the reading that is the difference. The streaming services have also increased during the year - but our choices of what to watch have become clearer and more deliberate. Believe us - we have continued to be casual and have been caught in the firm grip of the algorithms - but the destructive relationships on some American and Chinese platforms have decreased in importance more and more.
We are beginning to get a better and better picture of the society and its development in challenging times. Jakob with many intensive years in medical technology and now "on the other side" in Linköping City Hall with a focus on the digital transformation of Sweden, the region and the city. Sara with many years as a teacher, principal and now at the Swedish Schools Inspectorate - also "on the other side". With some humility, we see how the systems that people in Sweden have created for many years are under pressure from demographic challenges and technological innovations that limit democratic influence. But also the opportunities to shape the future if we can take advantage of the development opportunities.
What strikes us is that the value of investing in the family, NGOs, the public sector and people around us pays off thousands of times over. Of course, there is nothing new in that - it is the same wisdom that has been passed through generations at all times. It's kind of strange that is needs to be rediscover over and over again. It can be scaled from the individual, to the group, to the city, to the region and to the nation.
One theory is that we always act in our own self-interest somewhere deep down inside - and there is some truth to that. Our highest reward, and thus in our highest self-interest, is apparently when we give to others. We cannot speak for others - but thats the case for the family Algulin atleast.
Do not immerse yourself in the destructive discussion, build people and common organizations that create value between us.
Create the future we all want to live in.
